Welcome to Sant'Egle
This historic home was a Customs House in the 17th century where those who crossed the border between the Papal State and the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, stopped in search of refreshment.
Sant'Egle therefore has remained so- a place to rest, seek refreshment, meet friends, and have interesting encounters between unexpected travelers. Sant'Egle is also an organic 400 mq farm with zero environmental impact and winner of the first prize for best “agriturismo” in Italy in regards to sustainability and conservation of biodiversity. All products are vegan, gluten-free and Cruelty Free.
100% of the electricity used is produced from renewable sources. Wastewater and rainwater are recycled for watering the synergistic garden. The heating and hot water are produced by the fireplace heating system, and solar water heaters.
We are city people who have chosen to live in the Tuscan Maremma since 2010, moving from Florence and Varese. We felt the need for a happy descent to a place where the quality of life, of the air and of our nourishment become the focal point of a happy and healthy life.
We live here in Sant'Egle throughout the year, and this is our home. Visit our space, where you will see the memories, objects, and books of our lives that with pleasure we have decided to share with our guests.
We like repairing, recycling in art, the use of shared things, and composting everything that consumerism would have you throw away. We do not like the waste of food, or objects. Because of this we cook daily for guests, only upon request, using only fresh organic products mainly grown at Sant’Egle or other nearby organic farms.
We organize synergistic agriculture courses, cooking classes, eco events and we host art exhibitions.
